A new partnership with the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence

This spring, we have a new partnership with the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE) and Ten Strands to support district and county leaders with resources and tools for climate resilience. Over the next few months, we’ll be highlighting practices and tools created by leading districts and county offices of education through “Open Door Learning Session” webinars and “Spotlight” posts to the CCEE website. We’re also pulling artifacts and resources from across the state together into a toolkit for release later this year.

Our first Open Door Learning Session was in April and focused on why we need to transition to a “climate-ready mindset” and set the foundation for the conversations to come. Check out the resources, slides, and video from this exciting conversation, and please share them widely.

We also published our first Spotlight in May, “Climate Change and Emergency Management: How the San Mateo County Office of Education Helps Districts and Schools Become Climate Ready.” This resource shares the story of how San Mateo COE has incorporated climate adaptation into emergency planning and response protocols, building on their extensive work with environmental literacy and sustainability.

We’ve have another Open Door on May 22 at 2pm, which will focus on innovations in Energy and Grid Resilience and feature participants from Yolo County Office of Education, Santa Barbara Unified School District, and Modesto City Schools. These LEAs are shoring up vulnerable energy grids with microgrids, installing solar carports to run electric buses cheaply, and bringing millions of state and federal grant dollars, tax credits, and energy savings into their districts.

We’re so excited to be learning from California’s most innovative, courageous, and forward-thinking leaders, and to give them a platform to share their stories, learnings, and resources to drive further climate adaptation and resilience across our schools.
