The first school districts have begun receiving tax credits for clean energy projects that can improve aging facilities, lower operating costs, and make schools healthier for students.

The incoming new national Administration, along with Republican majorities in Congress, represents a significant shift in the landscape. As schools nationwide open up their doors to students this month, millions of people are under extreme heat warnings. Amidst this heat wave, many students are heading into buildings that lack air conditioning and ventilation to keep them healthy and learning.

Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, clean energy is increasingly irresistible. And with clean energy comes the opportunity for our schools to be healthier, more resilient, and more efficient to operate. The first 100 districts are already on their way to harnessing the benefits of clean energy and leveraging Elective Pay to make it affordable.

David Roberts, host of the Volts podcast, featured an in-depth conversation with UndauntedK12 co-founders Sara Ross and Jonathan Klein about the transformative potential of new Inflation Reduction Act tax credits to help schools across the country upgrade to clean energy technologies.

Twenty-three organizations, including UndauntedK12, and 29 individuals from across 12 states sent a letter calling on the U.S. Department of Education to take urgent action to protect students from the dangers of extreme heat on school campuses.

The IRS launched the pre-filing registration portal for schools to begin claiming clean energy tax credits through the elective pay (also known as direct pay) provision of the Inflation Reduction Act.
