BOSTON, Mass. — Today, the Massachusetts House of Representatives released its 2024 budget proposal, which includes funding for a Green School Works competitive grant program, which will "provide financial support to eligible K-12 public schools or districts for projects to install or maintain clean energy infrastructure."

Sara Ross, co-founder of UndauntedK12, released the following statement:

"The Green School Works competitive grant program proposed in the 2023 Massachusetts House budget identifies an important opportunity to support school climate action in the state. If the program is approved, Massachusetts will help defray the costs of upgrading and installing clean energy infrastructure — like heat pumps, solar panels, and electric vehicle charging stations. These investments will make a huge difference when it comes to reducing energy costs, mitigating climate change, and supporting student health and learning opportunities. And now is the time to take action, given the funding for clean energy at schools available through the Inflation Reduction Act.

UndauntedK12 is grateful to the Massachusetts House of Representatives for identifying the urgent need to advance climate-ready schools. It’s especially important that a competitive program work to support applications from schools serving low-income and environmental justice populations. In order to ease the administrative burden on communities, we recommend that this program be administered by the Massachusetts School Building Authority and integrated into existing school construction programs. We encourage our state leaders to keep Green School Works in the final state budget and entrust the Massachusetts School Building Authority with this important work."
