2022: UndauntedK12’s Year in Review
2022 has been a busy year for UndauntedK12! In the last twelve months, we’ve worked with many partners across the country to bring attention to our nation’s urgent need for decarbonized and climate-resilient school buildings and grounds — and people are listening! We are so thankful to all of the incredible leaders, experts, advocates, students, activists, government officials, and many other partners on this journey that we’ve had the opportunity to work with this year. We are energized by the progress we’ve seen on the ground – and have much more to come in the new year.

In March, we collaborated with Dr. John King to lift up and share opportunities for K-12 climate action with school district leaders across the country.
We teamed up with Jason Acosta Espinosa, a student at Dartmouth College and Massachusetts climate fellow at Our Climate, to advocate for climate justice in Massachusetts schools in this piece that ran in The 74.
We partnered with Dr. Lisa Patel in this EdSource op-ed urging California state leaders to protect students from wildfire smoke and extreme heat, and encouraging them to make a plan for healthy, climate-resilient schools.
After Earth Day, we called attention to the enormous, if often overlooked, role that schools play in the climate crisis and what leaders can do to slow and adapt to climate change.
We joined Climate Jobs National Resource Center in this report highlighting the benefits of net-zero energy schools and encouraging districts to set goals to substantially reduce energy use intensity.
Together with GenUp, we developed this tool to support young people in holding local school board members accountable for climate action.
We partnered with our colleagues at Rewiring America to shine light on the health and learning benefits of school electrification.
We teamed up with nationally-acclaimed nonprofit leader HEET to call attention to gas safety at Massachusetts schools.
We joined a broad coalition of stakeholders that advocated for — and won! — policy to support climate-ready schools in California, including $20 million for HVAC electrification for high risk communities as part of the California Schools Healthy Air, Plumbing and Efficiency Program (CalSHAPE).
We collaborated with partners to seize the moment and ensure actions to support "green and healthy" schools were included in Massachusetts’ omnibus climate legislation.
